Université de technologie de Compiègne (UTC) is recruiting a R&D engineer, in the Department of Biological Engineering (GB) - Biomechanics and Bioengineering (BMBI, https://bmbi.utc.fr/) Laboratory (UMR CNRS 7338), as part of the CCDIM project.

This recruitment is funded by SATT Lutech (https://www.sattlutech.com/lutech/?lang=en ).

Mission

The successful candidate will work on the CCDIM project (Integrated Dynamic Cell Culture in Microsystems). He will participate to the development, optimization and validation (cell cultures) of a microfluidic biochip for liver cells culture. The biochip will incorporate different components (membrane, hydrogel,...) and will be manufactured (lithography, replica molding 3D printing) using a low binding material.

Principal activities

  • Manufacture of microfluidic devices (photolithography, replica molding 3D printing) adapted to cell cultures.

  • Characterize the manufactured devices: surface characterization (profilometry, scanning electron microscopy), flow rate and pressure within the perfused device and membrane permeability.

  • Validate the use of the manufactured biochips for liver cell culture and evaluate their biological activities.

  • Integrate the biochips to the microfluidic platform developed by BMBI lab (CCDIM platform) and validate the use of the entire setup (biochip + platform) for dynamic cell culture.

  • Dissemination of results through publications, symposia, scientific conferences, and also webinar, website,....

Type of contract and anticipated starting date

15-month fixed-term contract - to be filled as soon as possible.

Workload

37 hours and 30 minutes/week- 1 607 hours per annum

Work environment and context

The activity is carried out at the BMBI lab (cells, biomaterials, bioreactors CBB team). The engineer shall report and maintain a regular dialog with project coordinator, relevant interlocutors and SATT Lutech.

The person will work on the microfluidic/microfabrication and cell culture (L2 level) platforms.

Job requirements

Skills

  • Very good knowledge and experience in biomaterial, microfluidic and microfabrication.

  • Proficiency in cell culture (experience working in a sterile environment).

  • Physico-chemical and molecular biology characterization tools.

  • Analytical mindset and the ability to interpret data and transform it into meaningful results.

  • Management and execution of projects.

  • Good level of English (B1/B2).

  • High motivation and desire to achieve projects goals

  • Creativity, teamwork and high level to independency.
