Place of work

Compiègne

Type of contract and anticipated starting date

Fixed-term contract - as soon as possible and until 31/12/2025

Gross monthly salary

According to experience and funding

Workload

1 607 hours per annum

Mission

development of predictive models for numerical simulation of material processing

Principal activities

·      Development of numerical tools for simulation of flanging process, especially for high strength steel. The developed models aim to feasibility analysis using standard and innovative process like electromagnetic forming.

·      Regular progress reports during group meetings.

·      Participation in teleconferences and collaboration meetings.

·      Preparation for the dissemination of numerical tools (internal and/or public).

·      Preparation of documentation for numerical tools.

·      Presentation of the results during workshops and conferences.

Work environment and context

Flanging has a wide range of applications in part assembly, and in recent times, many research has been done projecting the electromagnetic flanging as a potential forming technology for high-strength aluminium alloys. However, the electromagnetic flanging process is still in the development phase, and a clear guideline is not available for different sizes of workpieces (sheets and tubes). The process also has not been established for high-strength steels, which have higher stiffness and lower electrical conductivity. Therefore, the current research proposal is essential for establishing electromagnetic flanging as a potential forming technology for high-strength steel, developing a flexible and robust experimental setup for industrial adaptations and compare electromagnetic flanging to standard process.

The project will be carried out in close collaboration between two academic partners (Université de technologie de Compiègne, https://www.utc.fr and Ecole Centrale de Nantes, https://www.ec-nantes.fr) and two industrial partners (le CETIM, https://www.cetim.fr and ArcelorMittal, https://corporate.arcelormittal.com )
